• the most decorated war dog of WWI
•  the only dog to be nominated for rank and then promoted to sergeant through combat
• served with the 102nd Infantry Regiment
• He entered combat on February 5, 1918
• in the trenches in France for 8 months
• participated in 17 battles
• warned his unit of poison gas attacks
• located wounded soldiers in no man’s land
• captured a German spy
• April 1918 wounded in the foreleg by German hand grenade
• 1918 met President Woodrow Wilson on Christmas Day
• July 6, 1921 General John J. Pershing decorated Stubby with a gold medal on behalf of the Humane Education Society in Washington, D.C.
• 1921 – received at the White House by President Warren G. Harding
• 1924 – received at the White House by President Calvin Coolidge
• Memorial Day 2018 – Life-size bronze statue unveiled in Middletown, Connecticut
